Music Video...8th Grade
For our 8th grade music class we had to pick a song and make a video that went with the song. My class chose REO Speedwagon's "I Can't Fight This Feeling" and it was on. We listened to the lyrics and figured out what we should write for a storyline.
2 couples that hung out all the time were struggling in their relationships. I was unhappy with my girlfriend and Laura was unhappy with her boyfriend. You could tell in the video from our looks at each other when the 4 of us were out together.
By the end of the video we were honest and the relationships were over, but Laura and I ended it at a party where we were dancing. The closing scene had the 2 of us kissing. That was great, except for the fact that they showed it at our "Moving Up" night where they invited families to come. My dad yells out, "Erik, your father is watching." Everyone laughed. Then my little sister says, "Oooooohhhh, Erik is kissing a girl." The whole place lost it.
I have very fond memories of that time of life. When this song pops up on the radio or runs through my playlist on my iPhone I get a little nostalgic and smile. Laura is still a great friend and I am thankful to God for the gift of music.

We listened carefully to the lyrics and began to write what we thought was a great script to fit the song. It was a story of 2 couples who spent a lot of time together. They went to the ice cream stand together, restaurants, sporting events, etc. There was one problem: I was struggling in my relationship with my girlfriend and Laura was struggling in her relationship with her boyfriend. Add to that was the fact that we had someone gained an interest in each other over time.
As you watched the video you could see it in our looks at each other and touching feet under the tables. Near the end of the video we all saw what needed to happen. Break ups. In the last scene of the video Laura and I are dancing at a party and as the camera begins to fade to black we kiss.
This was a great moment, except for the fact that they showed the video at our 8th grade Moving Up day. Where the real problem lay was that families were invited to this evening. As we were about to kiss in the video my dad yells out, "Erik, your father is watching." The whole place was laughing. Then my little sister screams, "Ooooohhh, Erik is kissing a girl." Everyone lost it. It was a really funny moment.
Whenever I hear this song on the radio or it makes it across the shuffle on my iPhone I get a bit nostalgic for the "good ole days." I think of Laura and I smile. We are still good friends and I am thankful to God for the gift of music.
