Cheer Me Up Tom

I was 16 and had just broke up with my girlfriend. I remember feeling awful about everything and as I always do, turned to music to cheer me up.

I didn't have my license yet so I walked to target to get a CD. I ended up getting Into The Great Wide Open. I wasn't a huge Tom Petty fan, I actually don't know  why I bought it.

I remember getting back, sitting down in front of my boom box (ha), hitting play and hearing that intro to Learning to Fly. I was instantly in a better place. I sat there with the liner notes and listened to the whole thing.

FINALLY somone used it in a movie, who better to pick that song then Cameron Crowe.

Check out this collection of scenes form Elizabeth Town.(great movie)

This song cheers me up too. I was feeling down the first time I heard it, and laughed at the line "Coming down ... is the hardest thing." :) This makes me want to write a story about "Don't Come Around Here No More," one of the first MTV videos I saw ...

Ponyboy I love this song too, Dan! Oddly enough, I feel the total opposite. For me, it's a somber tune that reminds of me of father. Great choice! ;)
