Just after meeting Matthew in Iowa City, we road tripped with his band, O'Jesus, to their show at the Botanical Center in Des Moines. His band was crazy, and loud, and mostly drunk all the time.
On the way home, it rained. It poured, really. Torentially and dangerously. Everyone was asleep or passed out in the back of the van, and I sat in the passenger seat. The rain was so loud we couldn't talk for the entire drive home, but we cranked The Appleseed Cast and sang along with the rainstorm in the background. This song has remained as the first of our musical 'connections' where we shared this intense moment without even saying anything to each other.
