So... I was heading to an R-n-B show when Michael Jackson's death was confirmed. I was hired to be the sound engineer for a showcase for 4 acts ...
Since it was a packed house and the buzz was all about MJ's death, the show had a unique vibe. I was told to just play music from my I-pod between acts since no DJ was hired. OK ... LISTEN CLOSELY PEOPLE ... Sound Engineers are NOT DJ's ... I play several instruments, can identify frequencies and DON'T BLOW speakers by "PUNCHING UP THE BASS, YO!"
All evening long, while I was attempting to do my job, a procession of slack jawed, misty eyed sentimental people bugged me with :
Hey, DJ play ...
A song by the best artist of all time.
Please, play a song by the most talented person we all know.
Play everybody's favorite musician.
Dedicate a song to the best ever.
You get the picture...
So 1 song before the headliner was due on, I grabbed the mic and said ... "Everyone has been asking me to play a song by the most talented pop artist of all time ... here it is".
As the 1st chords of PURPLE RAIN rang out through the PA ... I was greeted with a 50/50 reaction of midlle fingers and FU's and a standing ovation from the people that really understand TALENT.
Michael was a STAR ... PRINCE is undeniably more talented. Want to debate? Bring it, not with opinion with musical facts!
This is not an anti-Michael post ... I have met him twice ... have his autograph, he WAS a nice guy ... but this was not a dancing contest.
KABOOM!!!
PS... I will let go of the autograph for the right price!

Talent? Your argument has no holes, as far as over all talent. I met Michael in LA myself, he was docile. 35 days ago
The MAB Bomber
That is my point. Michael was a better dancer and had better sales, but didn't have as much talent. 35 days ago
